Package 4: The Hamingtons’ Lament

Arthur and Gladys Hamington live with their three rowdy sons Augustus, Cassius and Edison in their cottage adjoining Gloaming’s butchers shop. Arthur’s special talent to sing songs that make everyone feel understood and his extraordinary empathy mean that sometimes he gets overwhelmed with emotion. But that’s ok because Gladys, is a treasure finder - she can always find what’s lost and she can always see the good in a sea of bad. Which is useful when the three Hamington boys get in yet another fight for being such insufferable know-it-alls. They can’t help it; their talent is to know the answer to any question they’re asked but unfortunately, here in Gloaming, it’s really much safer NOT to know. When Mr Hamington’s cousin Fred is taken away for Safe Keeping, his grief threatens to overwhelm the family and so it’s up to Mrs Hamington to keep the family in order.

Cautionary Tale writer Rebecca Atkinson-Lord gives a brief introduction to the Hamington Family.

Designer James Turner talks through the set and costume design for the Hamington Family.

Cautionary Tale is a show about finding hope and spreading joy when all seems lost.  We’ve lost our chance, for the time being,  to work on developing the show as we had planned but we’d still like to share the joy. For a limited time, we’re sharing extracts from the score, lyrics, script, choreography and design of Cautionary Tale here so you can get a flavour of this show by reading, rehearsing and performing some of it in your own home. These works are copyright and the use of the materials posted here is strictly for personal, non-commercial use.   Once we are ready to go back into production these resources will be removed.
